Petara Cordero, the partner of NFL player Chris Smith, died in a car accident. The Cleveland Browns player and his girlfriend had just welcomed their baby into the world. The 26-year-old mother had given birth to her daughter Haven Harris Smith a month before the accident. Her team detailed in a statement Wednesday that Cordero was in the passenger seat of Smith's Lamborghini when the luxurious car burst a rubber tire, causing the vehicle to zigzag on Cleveland's I-90 and crash into a container. The woman got out of the car without being injured, but soon after was hit by a Mazda car, the News 5 station reported.
After being rushed to the Cleveland Clinic Fairview hospital, Cordero was pronounced dead. The Mazda's driver admitted that she had drunk alcohol before the accident and the results of her toxicology exam are pending. According to the Cleveland Browns team statement and a CNN report, Smith was not under the influence of any narcotic and was fully trained to drive.
The couple announced on social media the birth of their baby a month before the tragedy. On August 27, Smith shared photos of her daughter with the message: “I am so grateful to have another beautiful gift in this world, my daughter Haven Harris Smith. You are such a great blessing to me and your mother. I love you Petara and Baby Haven.”
The mother also shared the loving message on her Instagram account: “This little girl has filled my heart with so much joy and love. I am so grateful that God chose me to be his mom.”
On her 26th birthday, Cordero wrote a message on her Instagram account with a photo of her pregnant, thanking her life with the NFL player: “I always prayed and asked God for true happiness and unconditional love and here I am 26 years old with a man who loves me very much, a family and friends that I adore, while I wait for the arrival of my beautiful daughter Haven. Thank God, you are showing off.” Rest in peace.
