9-year-old Girl Dies When Attacked By Three Pit Bulls

A 9-year-old girl in Michigan was killed by a pack of Pitbulls.

Emma Valentina Hernández was attacked Monday afternoon while riding her bike with her brother in an alley on the west side of Detroit, the WWJ radio station reported.

"There are no words. I feel so empty. I don't know what to do,”his father, Armando Hernández told WWJ. "I'm really heartbroken right now."

The minor's father warned his neighbor, who owns the dog, that his fence was not stable enough to hold the animals, however, he did nothing, WWJ reported. The trio of pit bulls, or pit bull mixes, escaped from the yard and went after the girl.

Hearing screams, several residents of the area tried to prevent the dog herd from attacking the girl.

The girl, who suffered serious throat injuries, was taken to Michigan Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Detroit News spoke to some area residents, who intervened to try to prevent the tragedy. At least one of the good Samaritans shot and killed one of the dogs in the attack, according to the publication.

"They didn't stop," said Edward Cruz, who threw a brick at the dogs, the Detroit News reported.

I did my best. I tried first aid, I tried to help her. I could not do it. I did everything I could to just … she was gone. She was gone when I caught up with her,”her father told WWJ.

The dogs' owner, a 33-year-old man, was arrested Monday in connection with the animal attack.
