The family of Chloe Wiegand, the baby who died falling the most from the window of a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico, has broken the silence after the terrible accident. Through her lawyer, she ensures that what happened was not the responsibility of the girl's grandfather and that in this terrible incident there was "negligence".

The baby's death happened on Sunday afternoon on board the ship Freedom of the Seas, from the Royal Caribbean company. The boat was docked at the Pan American II Pier in San Juan, in Puerto Rico.

Police sources reported that Salvatore Anello, 52, one of the grandparents of the minor, originally from Indiana, stuck her out of a window located on the 11th floor of the boat, but that he apparently tripped and the girl escaped from the hands. The baby hit a ceiling and then hit the pavement, dying in a hospital.

Michael Winkleman, a family lawyer, spoke to the Today Show (NBC) to explain that the baby's grandfather had placed her on the edge of the window that was in the boat's children's playroom. According to the lawyer, the baby's grandfather did not know that the window was open.

"Basically the grandfather lifts her up and stops her on the shore and where he thought there was a glass because it was clear, but it turns out that there was no glass there," said Winkleman to tell the family version of what happened. "Then she went to hit the glass like someone would in one of those hockey games. In less than she thought she disappeared."

"Why on earth would someone leave the window open in a room full of windows in a children's area," the lawyer questioned in that program. "Come on: Why have that kind of danger hidden without warning, without a sign, without some notification?" "I believe that the cruise line will be blamed, and significantly, and I will do my best to find them guilty of what appears to be negligence."

Royal Caribbean spokesmen had already expressed their regret at the death of the minor on board one of their vessels, avoiding further comment. The company also told NBC that they were collaborating with authorities on the baby's death.

The girl's grandfather and six other relatives of the baby were summoned this Monday to the Police Headquarters to testify about the case, however they did not appear, according to El Vocero de Puerto Rico.

For his part, Sergeant José D. Sánchez Marchand, from the San Juan Homicide Division, told the Daily Mail that it is too early to declare what happened as an accident. "There are several possibilities. It could have been a homicide. It could have been murder. It could have been an accident,”he indicated. "We are in the first steps of this investigation. We have not eliminated any possibility.”
