The news about the attack he suffered this Sunday on former player David Ortiz in a bar in the Dominican Republic has gone around the world. The point-blank assault by a stranger and his alleged accomplice inside a Santo Domingo bar has caused a spate of rumors as the former Boston Red Sox player recovers at a local hospital.
So far what is known about the attack against "Big Papi":
1.- Attack and emergency operation
According to police reports, the incident occurred this Sunday around 20:50 pm, local time inside the open-air Dial bar, located in the Ensache Ozama, in the eastern area of Santo Domingo. There, two subjects appeared on board a motorcycle and one of them wounded the former major league champion in the back. Jhoel Lopez, actor and host of the show I like at night and one of the friends who accompanied Ortiz, was also injured on the site.
2.- Lynching
A video that circulates through networks captured the bloody lynching of Eddy Feliz García, one of the subjects who allegedly fired the weapon. The crowd cornered the man and beat him up until the police arrived to save him. The second accomplice is a fugitive from the law. "One of those involved managed to escape on foot," he said in an official statement. According to sources, both subjects were police or ex-police.
3.- The state of health of the victims
Ney Aldrin Bautista Almont e, director of the Dominican National Police, confirmed that Ortiz was transferred to the Abel González clinic where he underwent an emergency operation that lasted six hours and from which he emerged around 3:30 am Ortiz is out of danger but the operation removed his gallbladder and part of his intestines. "The bullet went directly through his stomach," Félix Durán Mejía, spokesman for the Dominican National Police, told CNN. For their part, the Red Sox have offered help "with all available resources" to their current advisor. Ortiz is expected to move to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston at one point in time to continue his treatment.

4.- Skirt mess?
After hearing the news of the attack in the Dominican Republic, reports emerged that the attack against Ortiz - who is married and has 3 children - would have to do with alleged infidelity. According to the Daily Mail newspaper, the Dominican Republic police believe that "Big Papi" was attacked on the orders of a drug dealer who hired them because Ortiz was allegedly dating his wife.
5.- Assassins?
Before this version, Leo López, Ortiz's representative assured the local media that the attack had nothing to do with a woman, but with hired thugs. "There is no doubt that it was an act of hiring," he said. Investigations continue.
