Little Harmonie Rose Allen, now 5 years old, shows that anything is possible with a good attitude and family support. The girl was diagnosed when she was 10 months old with meningitis, which damaged her arms and legs so much that they had to be amputated. They also had to amputate the tip of her nose, her parents told Meningitis.org.
However the British girl inspires others with her tenacity. The little girl, originally from Bath in England, started taking gym classes every week. Her mother, Freya Hall, told Somerset Live that her daughter enjoys jumping on the trampoline and spinning backwards.
"She asked to do it and we were a little dismayed at first," the mother confessed. “She was a little nervous to start but I did and never looked back. The coaches help her and she finds her own ways of doing the activities.”
The experience has been very positive for the girl, who has made good friends in gym class, says her mother. Although the other children looked at her a lot at first because of her physical difference with them, the girl "has made many friends and is enjoying it very much," adds the mother.
Doctors gave her only a 10 percent chance of surviving when Harmonie went to the hospital as a baby, but she has defied all odds. In 2017, the girl walked for the first time on prosthetic legs that cost about $ 13,000, the BBC reported. Their parents were able to pay for them thanks to donations to their Hope 4 Harmonie account.
The girl was on the news in March when she participated in the Bath Half Marathon. Although she was pushed in a wheelchair part of the way, she managed to reach the final goal. "She is a little star," Harmonie's mother told the BBC.
