9-year-old Boy Accused Of Mother's Death In Michigan

A 9-year-old boy has been charged by southern Michigan St. Joseph County Police with the shooting death of his adoptive mother Pauline Randol, 51, in a case that occurred Monday and shook Public opinion.

According to police reports, the minor shot his mother with a rifle inside the family home, in the town of Fawn River Township, located about 160 miles from Detroit, according to court documents obtained by the WWMT chain. -TV from Michigan.

The boy was in second grade at a primary school near the residence and was placed at the disposal of the authorities.

"My mom would not have wanted him to be called a murderer," Reagan Martin, 23, one of the victim's daughters, told the Associated Press. "Her entire world revolved around her."

Martin revealed that the boy - whose name has not been revealed and who has a different surname from his - lived from a very young age in his home and that he was adopted by the family in 2016.

Martin also revealed that the little boy had been diagnosed with an emotional disorder and that a few days ago they changed the medicine he was using, which worsened his symptoms. "[He was] hitting, kicking and throwing things," said the young woman, who believes that perhaps this caused the child to "explode", especially because due to these symptoms he had to stay home and miss school.

Martin says he does not know how it was that his brother had access to the gun and that the Sunday before the murder he was fine. "I was playing with my children," he said, "I was happy. My mom was happy."

The boy was admitted to a juvenile offender center where he is being evaluated to determine his mental health. So far it is unknown whether he will be tried as an adult or as a juvenile delinquent, sources from Sheriff Bradley Balk's office confirmed to the CBS affiliate in Detroit.
