A New Jersey mother called police last Friday to report her 23-month-old son as abducted. The same woman is now accused of murdering the baby and burying him in her backyard, PEOPLE confirms. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nakira Griner, 24, called police to help her find her son Daniel Griner Jr., who she said had been kidnapped, a document from the City of Bridgeton obtained by PEOPLE. Then a search for the baby began including the help of trained dogs. The search ended with sad news about 3 am Friday, when they found the body of the little boy buried in the courtyard of her own home, police said.

The mother was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, among other charges. It is not yet known whether she already has a lawyer for her defense. Her neighbor Crystal Castillo told the WCAU channel that she had not seen the boy in over a month and was shocked after hearing the accusations against the mother. "She is the most genuine person in the world," Castillo said of her neighbor. “My children had a close relationship with her and her children with me. I do not know what to do".

The baby has another younger brother and a Gofundme account has been created to help his father Daniel Griner Sr. after the tragedy. "This little boy's father is a hard-working nurse who has two jobs," says the Gofundme page. "He had two baby boys." The page adds that the father will have financial difficulties from now on and "every penny counts." If you cannot donate money, please send a prayer for this man. I worked with him and neither he nor his son deserved this. #JusticiaParaDanielJr”, concludes the text. The investigation is still ongoing.
