Following the announcement of the release of Leopoldo López, opposition leader of the Venezuelan government, headed by President Nicolás Maduro, an internal war has broken out between civilians and official forces. It seeks to overthrow the current regime, which it is argued has put the country in a state of famine and lack of freedoms.
Under the name of Operation Freedom, a confrontation has begun to establish Juan Guaidó as new president, who assumed the position of interim president and is supported by various countries around the world.
Venezuela: today we have begun the definitive phase for the cessation of the usurpation. Operation Freedom has been activated. I have been released by military units that have sided with the Constitution and the people under President Guaidó. I am at La Carlota base. All to mobilize. It is time to conquer our Freedom. ¡Fuerza, Fuerza y Fe!”, Wrote López on his Instagram account.
For his part, Maduro has reiterated that he has the support of the military command; even his Defense Minister, General Vladimir Padrino, warned that the detractors will be responsible for the loss of life caused by this battle.
"I hold them responsible for any act of violence, death or bloodshed," Padrino said in a speech, according to international media reports.
According to the AFP agency, Russia has also accused detractors of fueling the political conflict in this nation and calls for peaceful negotiations to begin.
"The radical opposition in Venezuela has returned to violent methods of confrontation again," said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Until now, Juan Guaidó continues to call on the people of Venezuela to join this fight; Meanwhile, various nations and political leaders show their support for both sides.
