Rapper Vanilla Ice was among the passengers on an Emirates flight that was quarantined after several passengers had symptoms of a mysterious illness. "I didn't think it was such a serious matter," he told The Blast about his experience on the plane. “During the flight a situation arose. We were told that we would be in the middle of the runway after a 15-hour flight. They said there were several sick passengers so we were going to stay on the tarmac for a while waiting.”

The rapper - who now presents The Vanilla Ice Project home renovation program on the DIY chain - added that he felt exhausted, but in good health. The artist missed his connecting flight to Florida, where he lives, because of the delay. The flight came from Dubai and landed at JFK Airport in New York.

The artist first expressed what he experienced on his social networks. "I just landed from Dubai and now there are a lot of ambulances and fire and police trucks everywhere," he posted on Twitter. "This is crazy. Apparently there are more than 100 sick people on the ground floor of the plane so I'm glad to be upstairs.”

The gigantic Airbus A380 has two floors and had about 500 passengers on board, according to CBS. Although it was initially reported that about 100 passengers were affected by this disease, a spokesperson for the airline told PEOPLE that "about 10 passengers on flight EK203 from Dubai to New York became ill."

Emergency vehicles from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) helped transport passengers. According to reports, three passengers and seven airline employees were taken to local hospitals for treatment and the rest of the passengers returned to their homes and normal activities. A CDC spokesperson told PEOPLE that "some passengers, including crew members, had complained of feeling ill with symptoms such as cough, fever and gastrointestinal problems."
