Father Kills Daughter While Teaching Her Safety By Using Weapons

A man from Hobart, Ohio, was arrested and faces charges of negligence and reckless murder for the death of his 9-year-old daughter, whom he accidentally shot while trying to give him a "safety lesson" with firearms.

Last June 10, Eric Hummel, 33, was showing his young daughter Olivia and her 10-year-old twin brothers their 9mm semi-automatic pistol without realizing that the weapon he used for his lesson was loaded. Accidentally, the gun went off, fatally injuring his daughter.

The Chicago Tribune reported that, according to court records, the defendant stated that his sole intention was to teach his children how to use this weapon safely. "Never play with her because they could kill someone," he would have told them. In his 911 call, the distressed father is heard saying, "I had my gun and I pulled the trigger and I didn't realize there was a bullet there and I shot my daughter." In that call, he also told the operator that his daughter had blood everywhere.

The inconsolable dad started talking to his little girl, saying, “Please don't go. Oh my God! Please do not go!.

When the police arrived at the scene, they said that the minor was dying, so they transferred her to a nearby hospital without delay, but unfortunately, half an hour later, she was declared dead.
