Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr has been forced to turn over jewelry worth $ 8.1 million to the United States Department of Justice in connection with a corruption case in Malaysia.

Kerr received the jewelry from her ex-boyfriend and Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho, who allegedly bought it for her with money stolen from his country's government, The Guardian reports.

"From the start, Miranda Kerr has cooperated and committed to delivering the jewelry to the government," her spokeswoman said in a statement to USA Today. "Ms. Kerr will continue to collaborate with the investigation in whatever way she can.”

One of the pieces he delivered is an earring with an 8.8 carat pink diamond.

The case alleges more than 1MDB, according to a Justice Department press release. The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, is the one who founded it and denies having committed any crime.

Kerr dated Jho between her 2013 divorce from Orlando Bloom and her courtship with her now husband and Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has also delivered a painting by Pablo Picasso valued at $ 3.2 million and a collage by Jean-Michel Basquiat valued at $ 9 million, both gifts from Jho, Fortune reports.

At the moment, neither celebrity has been charged with any crime and they are both cooperating.
