What was supposed to be a routine flight turned into a tremendous commotion on a China Southern Airlines plane, after a female passenger set out to seek her "good luck" in a very peculiar way.

According to CNN, the 80-year-old woman threw nine coins into one of the Airbus 320's turbines, just as it was a source, for "good luck." Her action, however, caused her to be detained by the authorities and caused a delay of several hours on that flight.

In her strange rite, the old woman caused the 150 passengers on that plane to be evacuated and have to spend an additional five hours at the Shanghai-Pudong International Airport.

Authorities reported that the passenger, identified only as Qiu, has no criminal history or history of mental health problems. When questioned, she stated that her decision to throw the coins on that turbine were part of her prayer to ask for "a safe flight."

Of the nine coins, only one entered the aircraft's turbine, and reportedly totaling no more than twenty-five cents. Ironically, the inspection that triggered the incident could cost thousands of dollars.

The delay that the passenger caused, in addition, will not help the statistics that are compiled each year on compliance with airport schedules. Shaghái-Pudong, by the way, occupies one of the worst rankings in this area despite the fact that last year it was used by 66 million passengers
