A Hispanic mother from South Florida is being accused of hitting her 9-year-old son with a meat tenderizer mallet during an argument at home.

Martha Cigueñas, 44, was arrested on Monday on a charge of aggravated child abuse in an incident that occurred on April 4, according to an authorities report.

According to the brief, Storks took a glass candlestick and hit him on the head twice, then grabbed a metal meat tenderizer and hit him on the head, causing heavy injuries.

The young man had not told her that he had to do chores while he was on spring break and she was furious, throwing a bottle of water and a cell phone at him, among other objects. After yelling at the boy, Storks hit him on the arm with the softener, causing stitch marks and indentations that started to bleed, according to the report.

The boy was examined by a child protection team, which concluded that the injuries "were consistent with physical abuse of children," the report said. However, Ciguenas denied intentionally hitting the boy.

Storks was arrested and taken to the Miami-Dade County Jail, where she was held Tuesday with a bond of $ 5,000.

On Monday, Storks was interviewed by Miami-Dade police detectives and admitted to "throwing various objects" at the boy out of "frustration," police said.

He also said, according to the report: "I could have hit him while he was throwing away the things I grabbed."

The report concludes that "when images of the victim's injuries were shown to the defendant, she admitted that she caused the injuries when she pulled the meat tenderizer and other objects, but denied intentionally hitting [the child]."
