Jaysiah Chavez, a Hispanic little boy described by his family as “an little angel,” died in Fresno, California after being savagely attacked by two dogs that ran into his home garden. Although the boy's grandparents tried to save him, they could do nothing and he died of his injuries.

The incident occurred last Friday night when a call for help was received for a boy who had been bitten by dogs, police Lt. Mark Hudson revealed at a news conference. Paramedics answered the call and gave first aid to the minor, but he died in the hospital where he was taken to the emergency room.

According to Hudson, the Rottweiller dogs had escaped from a neighboring house. Other children who were inside the house saw what was happening and warned the grandmother who went out to rescue her grandson but was attacked by one of the dogs. Then Grandpa came out and armed with a hose chased the animals away, but by then little Jaysiah had been mortally wounded.

Police located the beasts and captured them to be brought to the California Central Association for Animal Care (SPCA). According to Hudson, both dogs were later slaughtered.

"Our precious little angel Jaysiah left with our Lord this Friday, March 22, 2019," said the GoFundMe page that relatives of the boy opened to help the family. “He laughed and smiled, bringing joy and happiness to everyone who knew him. He liked listening to music and being with his grandparents at the beginning of the day. The way we lost our Jaysiah was a tragedy, but he will always live in our hearts.”

“We feel like we are in a dream right now. It's just very difficult to imagine now,” Ayden Palmerin, an uncle of the victim, exclaimed to the local KGPE station. "The death of a little boy, especially the way he passed away … is just terrible."

"We have no past reports of these [animals] and in fact we reviewed all the databases and there is nothing in that locality," said Walter Salvari, SPCA spokesman. "But it seemed like they wanted to get out of the yard where they were." The inquiries continue.
