Raquel Eleana Spencer will spend 90 to 120 days in a detention center and will be on probation for 10 years. The Georgia teacher has been sentenced after having a sexual relationship with a minor student. The 29-year-old woman pleaded guilty Friday to sexual assault, abusing her role as a supervisor with disciplinary authority, according to Whitfield County court documents.

Spencer was an English teacher at Northwest Whitfield High School in Tunnel Hill, Georgia. She was also a coach for the school's cheerleading team. On April 25, students and other staff at the school, located near the Tennessee border, realized that the teacher was acting erratically. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, they took her to the school office and found that Spencer appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Authorities then arrested her at the school for possession of heroin.

When the police investigated her, they found that she had inappropriate text messages with a minor student. According to the authorities, her relationship with the student lasted from October 2017 to April 2018 and they had sexual relations multiple times.

The teacher will also have to do 300 hours of community service and pay a fine for a sex offender. Spencer's attorney has not yet responded to PEOPLE and has not commented on the case.
