The lifeless body was found around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday by a highway worker, who found a red suitcase on an isolated stretch of Glenville Road in Greenwich and immediately called police, the Department of Health Captain said. Greenwich Police Robert Berry to the press at a conference.

Valerie had been reported missing from the New Rochelle Police Department and was last seen on January 29 at 9 am. Her family was informed of the identification last night. "Obviously, they are devastated by the loss of Valerie and our deepest condolences go out to them," Berry said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press. "The Greenwich Police Department is dedicated to identifying those responsible for Valerie's death and ensuring justice for her and her family."

The medical examiner's office completed an autopsy, but has yet to release the cause of Reyes' death.

"We have no doubt that there was a murder," said Berry.

Authorities have no idea how or where she was killed, or how her remains ended up in a suitcase on the side of the road.

Reyes was reported missing on January 30 after she failed to report to work at her place of employment, a Barnes & Noble in Eastchester, New York.
