Chris Watts' former lover - the man who confessed to killing his wife and two daughters - says he made her believe he was a loving father finalizing a divorce. According to her, she had no idea that Chris's wife was 15 weeks pregnant until Shan'ann Watts and her two daughters were reported missing in August.

"He is a liar," Nichol Kessinger, 30, told The Denver Post about the man she met at work. "He lied about everything." This is the first time that the young woman talks about the love relationship she had with Watts, who confessed guilty earlier this month to murdering his wife of 34 years and their daughters Bella, 4 years old, and Celeste, 3, in August.

An affidavit revealed that Watts, 33, was having an affair with a co-worker but Kessinger's identity had not been revealed until now. Although some have speculated that his extramarital relationship with Kessinger may have influenced his desire to murder his wife, the young woman assures The Denver Post that "she hardly knew him."

"We had just met," Kessinger said of his lover, with whom he began a romance in July with no plans to formalize the relationship. The young woman never met Watts' family or friends and they were going slowly. Kessinger met with Watts four to five times a week, except when he traveled in July to see his family in North Carolina. It was then that he called her to tell her that their divorce was finalized and she needed help looking for an apartment to move alone with her daughters.

"He made me believe he was doing everything a rational man and a good father would do," he added. Kessinger started seeing red flags in August when Watts' wife and daughters disappeared. She assures that Watts seemed very casual about the absence of the three and showed no emotion.

Kessinger revealed to The Denver Post that she questioned Watts when reading the news, but he assured her that he would never harm his wife or daughters. "It seemed strange to me," she admits. "It got to the point where she was telling me so many lies that I told her I didn't want to speak to her again until they found her family."

The young woman called the Weld County Sheriff's Office on August 15 to tell them what she knew and spoke to FBI investigators the next day. "I just wanted to help," he says. "I don't think there is a logical explanation for what he did. It is a pointless act and it is horrible.”

Watts will be sentenced Monday to spend the rest of his life in prison.
