The future of a young athlete and his little sister have been cut short by his mother.

Kayson Toliver, 18, an Oklahoma football player was asleep in his bed Thursday morning when he was shot in the head by his mother, Amy Leann Hall. When she shot her son, the mother entered the bedroom of her daughter, 16-year-old Kloee Toliver, and also shot her in the head.

Authorities say Hall's youngest daughter, who is only 14, had been sleeping in the same room as Kloee. As confirmed by People magazine, her mother also tried to shoot her in the head, but the bullet only grazed the side of the neck. The youngest daughter, who has not been identified, was able to escape her mother by fleeing to the bathroom and eventually convince her to drop the gun.

A friend of Kayson's had spent the night during the incident and called the police for help at approximately 6:30 am. The mother fled the crime scene causing a lengthy police chase before being caught and detained.

Upon arriving at the home, officials found Kayson Toliver dead and his two sisters with gunshot wounds.

The 39-year-old mother claims that she attempted to kill her three children in an effort to protect them from their father. She and her husband have been in the middle of a custody battle for the three children since 2016. Hall claimed that her ex had threatened to kill her and physically abused her. The children's father had petitioned for custody of the three children, claiming that Hall had mental health problems and was psychologically abusive. She also denied her claims that she had mistreated her children.

The divorce is believed to have been unresolved at the time of the shooting. Hall had apparently planned to kill the three children and then commit suicide before her youngest daughter altered her plan.

While Toliver's youngest daughter will survive her injuries, 16-year-old Kloee's injuries have left her brain dead and she will be removed from life support this week.
