A 36-year-old man is accused by police of being responsible for the deaths of two girls who went missing in an Arizona valley.

Christopher Matthew Clements was indicted by a jury of 21 criminal charges, including the murder and kidnapping of Isabel Celis, 6, and Maribel González, 13, as reported on Friday at a press conference by Chris Magnus, head of the Tucson police.

The girls disappeared from the same area in Tucson between 2012 and 2014. The first victim was Isabel Celis, who on April 21, 2012 was abducted from her room and whose remains were found three years later in a rural area.

Maribel González disappeared on June 3, 2014 when she was walking to a friend's house close to her own. The girl's body was discovered three days later at the Northern Tucson intersection, police confirmed.

According to the Pima County Sheriff, Marible González's death has been determined by the coroner as a homicide.

Police were able to connect the accused to both cases when the FBI received a lead that Clements had information regarding Celis' disappearance. When questioned by the police, the man offered information that was used to locate the girl's body.

"[The resolution of] heart-shattering tragedies like that of Maribel González and Isabel Celis was long awaited," said Barbara LaWall, Pima County District Attorney. "Christopher Clements' apprehension was long overdue."
