A former Dominican baseball player is in deep trouble for posting a message with terrorist threats on social media.
Leonel Vinas, 26, was arrested Tuesday at John F. Kennedy airport before boarding a plane bound for the Dominican Republic, sources in New York confirmed.
Before trying to escape, Vinas had posted a message on Instagram that said: “Here is my message: I am going to the Dominican Republic. The first policeman to try to stop me or I shoot him or I'm going to kidnap him.”
According to Pagesix.com, Vinas abandoned life on the streets to play baseball and join the Bronx Bomber.
His career lasted only a year when he played in the East Coast League. In an interview with The New York Post - PageSix editors - Vinas stated that he had met Yankees adviser Ray Negrón and Hank Steinbrenner.
"They told me: 'You have the opportunity to be a Yankee' [but] I did not believe them, I did not think it was really true," he said. "But the season continued and we got bigger and bigger and now here we are, my dream come true."
Vinas heard his charges before a judge earlier this Tuesday and was detained on $ 10,000 bail.
