The case of former baseball player Esteban Loaiza for possession, transportation and distribution of cocaine appears to be about to take a radical turn, since it ensures that the Mexican would be willing to plead guilty to the serious charges he faces against him.
The NBL star was arrested last February in the city of San Diego after 10 kilograms of cocaine were discovered inside his truck. Following his arrest, Loaiza pleaded not guilty to the authorities in charge of the case, but his position may be about to change.
As reported by media such as Sports Illustrated on his online site, next Friday, August 10, the 46-year-old former player will have a new hearing, in which he is expected to accept his guilt in the serious charges attributed to him. Details about the case add that de Loaiza could face a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Last May, it was reported that the former athlete born in the city of Tijuana had received the benefit of probation, after a player bond was imposed, which led him to star in teams like the New York Yankees and Los Ángeles Dodgers, Loaiza also achieved great recognition in the Latin entertainment world for her controversial marriage to the late singer Jenni Rivera.
Just two months after the couple began their divorce process, Rivera died in a fatal plane crash in Mexico. Strong rumors about the causes of the divorce ensured that Loaiza had had a romantic relationship with his wife's oldest daughter, Chiquis Rivera.
