Yesenia Sesmas suffered a miscarriage, but for months she pretended to remain pregnant. The woman who lived in Texas made her family and friends believe that she was still in the sweet wait and even decorated her baby's room, accepting gifts at her baby shower for her unborn daughter, according to PEOPLE reports.
On November 11, 2016, he shared photos of a newborn baby girl, but it was not his daughter. The baby, named Sophia, was from a friend and former co-worker, Laura Abarca, who lived in Kansas.
Sesmas felt pressure to have a baby and drove to Wichita to Laura, 27, to murder her and steal her daughter. After shooting the young mother, Sesmas returned to Dallas with the girl and introduced her as his own.
On Tuesday, a jury convicted the 37-year-old woman of first-degree murder and kidnapping. Official sources informed PEOPLE that Sesmas could spend the rest of her life in prison if she is sentenced on July 13 to 50 years in prison without the right to parole.
According to the Wichita Eagle newspaper, the police found the whereabouts of Sesmas and the girl thanks to the text messages that the two women exchanged. Sesmas has stated that her friend agreed to give the girl but then changed her mind. She told authorities that she had only brought the gun to scare her, with no intention of killing her, local channel KUVN reported.
