A South Carolina mother killed the woman she considered her husband's girlfriend and later fled the crime scene and shot her children, one of them the result of her relationship with her husband. The terrible story ends with her suicide in the parking lot of a gas station, as the police point out.
Jessica Edens, 36, was the one who shot and killed Meredith Leigh Rahme, 28, as police chief Ken Miller pointed out at a press conference.
Shortly after this first murder, Edens' body appeared lifeless alongside that of her two children, little Harper, 5, and her son Hayden, 9, in the woman's car by shooting.
"From what we have gathered, Jessica Edens and Ben were separated at the time of the incident, and there were several custody issues regarding one of the children, the one they had in common," added Miller.
The couple had a daughter, Harper, and Hayden was the son of Jessica's previous relationship. The night before the terrible event, Ben called the police to warn them to watch for the children because he had received a series of messages from his wife, police told WSPA-TV.
Even the husband asked the police if he could use these messages in his daughter's custody trial against the killer. When officers arrived at Jessica's house, they saw the children watching a movie and eating popcorn. But the mother assured authorities that she was unprotected by both her husband and the woman he was dating.
According to the police Jessica showed no signs of erratic or unstable behavior at all. However, the couple's problems came from behind since the authorities had multiple calls from the ex-partner due to personal disputes. Both Ben and his murdered girlfriend had separated from their previous partners in the past few months.
