After answering a call from her 15-year-old daughter, a Utah woman heard the teenager's screams in horror as she was killed and she was unable to help her, People magazine reported. Salt Lake City authorities are looking for Shaun French, 24, as a possible perpetrator of the crime.
Baleigh Bagshaw called her mother around 3 pm Monday after arriving home from school. It was something the girl did every day, but this time her mother heard her being brutally attacked at home. According to Sgt. Brandon Shearer of the Salt Lake City Police Department, the call was disconnected after a few minutes.
The desperate mother called a neighbor, who called 911. Police found the teenager's lifeless body upon arrival at the home. "It was a very violent attack," Shearer told reporters about how the young woman died, without elaborating. There is an arrest warrant against French, who allegedly had a previous sexual encounter with the minor. According to Shearer, French "definitely had a connection to Baleigh and the family, so it was nothing out of the ordinary for him to be in the area."
No arrests related to the case have yet been made and police are continuing to investigate the case. Authorities have asked area residents to be vigilant and report if they see French, who could be in Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, or Indiana. Police suspect French is on his way to Cleveland, where he has friends. The man wears glasses and has a beard, and could be driving a Daihatsu Rocky car with Wyoming license plate # 19-13974. Authorities said French is armed, dangerous, and should not approach him. Anyone with information can call (801) 799-3000.
