Maggie Gremminger witnessed the death of a puppy on a United Airlines flight after a flight attendant forced the dog owner to place it in one of the overhead compartments for carry-on bags.
According to the Gremminger account, 30, the little black French bulldog belonged to a woman who also traveled with a teenager and a baby. The family of three sat right in the chairs in front of her and watched as they positioned the dog underneath their chairs, just as passengers who fly are normally their pets in the cabin.
Apparently, just before the trip between the cities of Houston and New York began, a flight attendant ordered the woman to move the briefcase in which the puppy was traveling to an upper compartment, as it was supposedly blocking somehow. the hall.
At first, the owner of the puppy did not want to move it and explained to the stewardess that she had her pet in the backpack. But before the auxiliary's authoritative attitude, the woman had no choice but to obey the request to move her bulldog.
Gremminger adds in his account that after the animal was placed in the luggage compartments it was barking for several minutes, but shortly after the plane took off, the puppy was completely silent.
When the passengers were preparing to get off the aircraft after arriving in New York, the owner of the puppy lowered the suitcase and immediately realized that her pet was dead, leaving her in shock and totally devastated.
“This has been a tragic accident that should never have happened, since pets should never be placed in the overhead compartments. We assume our responsibility in this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to the family. We are committed to helping you. We are investigating what happened to prevent this from happening again, Maggie Schmerin, an airline spokesperson, told People magazine.
It is not the first time that the death of a pet has been reported on a United flight. Last year several dogs lost their lives, in addition to the world's largest rabbit.
