January Neatherlin, a woman from the state of Oregon, received a 21-year prison sentence after she was found guilty of drugging seven children she cared for to attend a session in a tanning salon. The sentence was handed down last Friday by a judge who found her guilty of 11 first-degree criminal charges.
As revealed by People magazine on her online site, the woman was arrested in 2017 after an informant notified authorities that the 32-year-old nanny, owner of an unlicensed daycare called Little Giggles Daycare, was leaving alone. the little ones under his supervision.
After receiving the information, the police began a process of surveillance of the woman, discovering that she left her residence just two hours after the parents left their children in place. After following her, the authorities were surprised to find out what her final destination was: a tanning salon.
The woman faced a total of 114 charges of first-degree criminal abuse and endangering the well-being of others, but after accepting her guilt in the facts, several of the charges were dropped.
"Nothing is more important than the safety of our children," Deschutes County Prosecutor John Hummel had said of the case. "If the allegations against Ms. Neatherlin are proven in court, I will see that she receives the maximum sentence authorized by the law," he emphasized.
