Canelo Alvarez Tests Positive For Doping

In the midst of preparing for his expected fight with Gennady Golovkin, it was revealed that Mexican boxer Saúl Canelo Álvarez tested positive for a doping test.

According to the developer Golden Boy Promotions, the famous boxer reportedly presented traces of Clenbuterol, a substance that helps athletes reduce fat and is prohibited by anti-doping agencies.

Despite the embarrassing situation, the same athlete came out of the controversy. "I am an athlete who respects the sport and this surprises and bothers me because it had never happened to me," said the athlete through a written statement. "I will submit to all the tests required of me to clarify this shameful situation and I trust that in the end the truth will prevail," he added.

In an ESPN Deportes report, it is claimed that traces of the substance in question were found in tests carried out on February 7 and 20 by the Voluntary Doping Agency.

In his defense, the boxer would have assured that he considers that he could have consumed contaminated meat in Mexico, which is why his team has decided to continue his preparation in the United States, as revealed by TMZ.

The expected confrontation between Canelo and the champion of Kazakhstan will take place next Saturday, May 5, and will be the second confrontation between the two boxers. The first duel between the two took place at the iconic T-Mobile Arena in the city of Las Vegas in September 2017. On that occasion the match ended with a draw.
