In another incident involving a gun at a school, authorities in Jackson, Ohio are investigating what happened at the local middle school, where a seventh-grader shot himself in the bathroom with a gun he had brought to the school.
The student was transferred to a nearby hospital, but authorities did not give details to the press about his health. So far it is unknown if the shooting was intentional and where the student obtained the weapon from.
After raising the alert and a few moments of concern, it was announced that the students and teachers of the school were safe and the parents received a notification to go pick up their children.
Several schools in the area will be closed the rest of the day.
Amir Khawaja, a student at the center where the incident happened, told local channel FOX 8 that he did not know the person involved, but hopes he will survive. I hope he is still alive, I don't want him to die. I don't want any other person to die,”he said.
The Ohio school incident comes days after the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas high school massacre in Parkland, Florida, in which 14 students and three teachers lost their lives at the hands of a former student, Nikolas Cruz, who opened fire on his former partners.
