What was planned to be an unforgettable family vacation ended in tragedy when Lee Goggin, 35, was buried under several feet of sand on a Florida beach last Sunday.
According to details of what happened given by the Florida police to People magazine, the father of the family was making a tunnel in the sand of the beaches of the city of St. Augustine when his wife, who was recording it with his cell phone, He saw the sand fall on him.
After unsuccessfully trying to unearth it, the family made an emergency call to line 911. Relief agencies took more than 30 minutes to remove the various feet of sand in which the man was trapped. When he was finally able to be rescued, Goggin suffered from cardiac arrest and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, his death was reported today.
“He dug a tunnel with his hands in dunes (accumulations of sand) that ranged from three to ten feet in height. Apparently the sand collapsed on him and he was trapped,”confirmed Jeremy Robshaw, a spokesman for the St. John County Fire Department.
The man, the father of three children, and his family were traveling for the first time to the city of Orlando, where they would enjoy a vacation at Disney World. Apparently, Goggin would have decided to make a stop on the beach to get some rest and enjoy the time they had before doing their check-up at the hotel they had booked.
Through a campaign published on the online site GoFundMe.com, Goggin's younger brother tries to collect donations to help his late brother's family.
