In 1960 Irene Garza attended the Church of the Sacred Heart in McAllen, Texas, to receive the sacrament of confession. However, the priest who confessed her, John Feit, raped and murdered her.

After 57 years of the tragic event, which was never clarified, Feit, 85, was arrested by the authorities for the murder of Garza, reports El País. What happened? Garza was in church, but afterwards they never found her. The writing relates that her shoes did appear and, later, her body in a water channel. El País explains that the autopsy report indicated that Garza was beaten and raped when she was unconscious.

One fact that stands out from the investigation is that near the corpse they found a note written by Feit. The authorities had him as a suspect. The parishioners declared that the priest had scratches on his hands and even said that he had tried to attack another woman. However, Feit was never prosecuted. The priest indicated that he only gave him the confession.

But why didn't you continue investigating? The Monitor newspaper details that the prosecution found a letter and has the testimony of another priest who states that there was alleged interference by the Church in the case. This, because the moment of the murder coincided with the Kennedy campaigns as president. If Feit's case had come to light it would have represented bad publicity for the Catholic Church at the time. Kennedy was a Catholic.

However, in 2002, former priest Dale Tacheny called the police and explained that Feit had confessed to the crime in 1963, but had said nothing about the silent vote required by the confession. However, the investigation continued, Feit was arrested and could face up to ninety-nine years in prison.
