Hispanic Woman Killed In Gym In Her Building

A homeless man is suspected of killing a young Hispanic mother while she was working out in a luxurious apartment complex in Indianapolis.

The shocking crime happened this Friday at 2:44 am local time, when Carina Rodríguez, 23, was in the building's gym. Security cameras captured the moment Cody Weir, a 25-year-old homeless man with a police record, entered the scene after Rodriguez allowed him access.

The woman apparently opened the door after the man asked her to come in to drink water, according to FOX 59.

A minute later, Weir pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman wildly. The cameras captured how Rodríguez stumbled over to his bag and pulled out an iPad to try to ask for help, but it was too late.

His lifeless body was found in a pool of blood by two residents of the building early Friday.

"They say they went to exercise and found the dead body in the gym," said Adam Lottes, a roommate of the residents who found Rodriguez. "[My partner] told me that he went to exercise in the morning and just saw a body in its own pool of blood."

Rodriguez was originally from Texas and had recently moved to Indiana to pursue medical studies and to support her son, according to People.

The suspect's arrest came as the police released part of the video asking for help identifying the subject. People's calls immediately pointed to Weir.

When arrested, the defendant said he was angry and trying to calm himself, and that is why he wanted to drink water. The subject confirmed that his victim had opened the door for him and that he was carrying a knife, but said he did not recall what happened beyond the fact that he had “hit” Rodríguez with the gun.

Indianapolis Metro Police Police Chief Bryan Roach said authorities were very confident that they had arrested the right man.

"You could see that he knew why we were there," he told WXIN. "It was teary at first, but I knew what was happening, I think I saw it coming."

Weir was convicted of rape in 2013 and involuntary criminal confinement with weapons in Hendricks County, to be later exonerated by a judge.

On the other hand, Jessica Haines, a woman who had known Weir since high school, revealed that the night of the events she had sent him a series of inappropriate messages.

I know of at least 11 other women who received the same type of messages around the same time, "the woman told FOX 59." Honestly, this doesn't surprise me, "added the woman. "What amazes me is that it hasn't happened before."
