Among the thousands of residents of Mexico City who have been left homeless by Tuesday's earthquake is Aylín Mujica.

I'm really scared. My building almost fell,”the Cuban told People en Español. “I am homeless. In my apartment the walls fell down.”

In fact, the National Center for Civil Protection in Mexico City prohibited the passage to the recently built property in which the Cuban lives and is located in the Condesa neighborhood.

"I was three blocks from my house when the shaking happened. The walls of my house are cracked, the marble in my kitchen has been cut,”says Mujica, who is now in Veracruz for work reasons. “They closed the street where my building is because there are gas leaks. Some [buildings] are about to collapse.”

Luckily, he managed to get his passport back and on Thursday he will travel to Miami, where his family is. "My family is fine after what they lived through Hurricane Irma," he said, referring to the cyclone that struck Florida a few days ago. "My children are super-nervous [about what has happened]."

So far the authorities have confirmed the death of 225 people in Mexico City, Puebla and the state of Morelos, the main places affected by the 7.1-magnitude earthquake.
