At least 10 people fell into the water and suffered injuries when Dominique Effinger, 20, lost control of the boat she was driving in Indiana.

Effinger's action caused serious injury to the passengers. One of them even suffered an amputation of the arm and another suffered a skull fracture, according to a statement from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources obtained by People.

Effinger made a turn at a speed that was not safe because it caused all passengers to go overboard. The boat continued to spin out of control at 30 miles per hour on Lake Gage, causing more injuries to passengers who were already in the water, the statement said.

The two most seriously injured passengers were flown to the hospital. Meanwhile, others with minor injuries that were able to reach the shore also received medical assistance at the hospital. The statement reviewed by People indicates that at least four passengers suffered serious or fatal injuries.

Effinger was operating the 21-foot boat when he allegedly took a sharp [90-degree type] curve at an unsafe speed and all passengers fell into the water.

When authorities were reported to the incident, Jake Carlile, a conservation officer, sent a patrol boat toward the out-of-control boat. At the same time, residents living near the shoreline were alerted to clear the area should the boat turn toward the beach.

Effinger was arrested for driving a boat while intoxicated caused by injuries and for being a minor and having alcohol in her possession.
