A mother was accused of throwing her 4-year-old daughter into the river. Shakayla Denson, 26, was arrested Thursday by Tampa police after authorities received a call about a girl they had thrown into the Hillsborough River, according to a press release from the Tampa Police Department.

Her daughter, Je'Hyrah Daniels, was found unconscious in the water about 75 feet from shore. Although they tried to revive her, it was too late and the girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Tampa police allegedly saw Denson walking near the scene and arrested her. Denson allegedly stole a gray Nissan Altima car from a mechanic shop and drove to the Hillsborough River, where she entered the river with her daughter, the police statement added. Once in the water, Denson allegedly left the girl in the river and left.

Denson's motive is still unknown and police are still investigating the case. "Unfortunately there are more questions than answers right now," Police Chief Brian Dugan told Fox 13 News. "It is the madness of the world we live in today." The mother faces charges of child abuse and car theft, according to Fox News.

Nine months ago, Denson had created a GoFundMe account for her daughter titled "Life with Je'Hyrah." In his message, Denson explained that the girl had been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. “My goal is to start saving for your therapy teams and for Je'Hyrah's future. I am also interested in contacting others living with autism and would like to provide them with the strategies and resources that I have learned to help them cope every day. Thank you I really appreciate it".
