Maxwell Morton, 19, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of the 2015 murder of his friend Ryan Mangan, whom he “accidentally” shot. According to the case, the young man had taken a selfie with his body before leaving the place of the murder.
A report from People magazine's online site adds that the two young men were at Mangan's home, located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, when the tragedy occurred in February 2015.
Morton's photograph became one of the main pieces against the teenager during the trial, in which the jury made the decision to convict him. In the terrifying image, the bloody scene and Mangan's body were seen, while his friend appeared smiling despite what happened.
Although the young man's defense always tried to make the event look like an accident, everything was against Morton after he left the scene without giving notice to the authorities. The body of the 16-year-old was discovered by his mother when he returned from work. Statements delivered by a medical expert added that Morton's life could perhaps have been saved if emergency agencies had been notified.

As revealed by Patrick Thomassey, of the defendant's defense team, they plan to appeal the decision against their defendant, since they remain in their position that what happened was a tragic accident while the youth "played" with the weapon.
"I wish I could change [what happened]. I wish I could go back in time and that none of this had happened. But a sorry is the only thing I can give now, "Morton said during the trial.
