London police released the identities of two of the three men who carried out the terror attack that rocked that city on Saturday night, which left seven people dead and several dozen injured.

One of them was known to the authorities because of his jihadist sympathies and for which he had appeared in a documentary.

The identified terrorists are Khuram Shazad Butt, a 27-year-old British citizen of Pakistani descent, and Rachid Redouane, 30, who claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan. The identity of the third attacker remains to be confirmed, according to the British press.

Authorities also revealed that the police and secret services had investigated Butt for his extremist ideology two years ago, but found no evidence of criminal activity at the time justifying taking further steps. "The investigation into this horrible attack is rapid and complex as we build a more complete picture of what happened," they said in a statement.

Butt, whom his neighbors pointed to as the attacker wearing a fake suicide vest, appeared last year in the British Channel 4 documentary "The Jihadist Next Door."

In one scene, butt can be seen praying with group members in front of a black flag and how they are confronted by the police. According to the documentary, they were detained for an hour and later released without charge.

In the hours after the attack, 12 people - seven women and five men - were detained and six properties were searched. All detainees have already been released without charge.
