Police authorities in South Florida arrested a 65-year-old man who faces charges of murder without premeditation of his wife, with whom he lived almost three months after his death. The man also faces a charge for animal cruelty, as he starved his pet, a Dalmatian dog.
The El Nuevo Herald newspaper reported that Fort Lauderdale police went to Jeffrey Lynn Thacker's home on Thursday after a neighbor reported that he was concerned that he had not seen his wife Jaden Lynn Kincade, 51, for several days.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a Dantesque scene: Thacker had an open wound on his chest, another on his left arm, and his clothes were all stained with blood. In one of the rooms, the corpse of his wife was lying on the floor in an advanced state of decomposition. The body had more than 25 stab wounds.
To make the scene more cruel, in another room under a bed the couple's Dalmatian dog lay dead. The necropsy indicated that the animal had died because it had not eaten for several weeks.
According to the police report, Thacker, who has a criminal record including theft and possession of cocaine, confessed to police that he had killed his wife since 2015 because she had first attacked him with scissors in mid-February.
The court set Thacker bail of $ 2,500 and is awaiting his trial.
