Aaron Hernandez Kills Himself In His Cell

Former football player Aaron Hernández was found dead Wednesday in his cell at Souza Baranowski prison, Massachusetts, where he was serving a life sentence after being found guilty of murder.

According to a statement from the Massachusetts Department of Prisons, the lifeless body of Hernandez, 27, was found shortly after three in the morning.

“He was in an individual cell and committed suicide using a sheet that he had tied to the window of his room. I had tried to block the entrance from the inside with various articles, added the statement from the authorities.

The former New England Patriots star was sentenced in 2015 to life in prison without parole for the murder of Odin Lloyd, 27.

The victim had a relationship with Hernandez's fiancée's sister and was a semi-professional football player in the Boston Bandits.

Lloyd's body with six bullet wounds was found in an industrial park located one mile from Hernández's home. According to the prosecution, the motive for the murder was that some people Lloyd was talking to in a bar did not like Hernández.

The former player's death is especially surprising because it comes just days after he was found not guilty of the murder of two other people outside a nightclub in 2012.
