A girl from Queens County, New York was hit and crushed Thursday when she was left under the wheels of a truck while her mother watched in horror, according to witnesses to the horrible event.

The young mom was pushing the car carrying little 1-year-old Skylar Perkins in a pink stroller on 23rd Avenue in the Elmhurst neighborhood, around 8:40 p.m. when a white Dodge Ram hit the child.

Wallace Ramirez, 44, of Ashfield, Massachusetts, was making a right turn from 94th Street when he crashed into the stroller.

"It rolled right over the front of the stroller," Philip Walker, a witness in the area, told the New York Daily News. "She was screaming and he still didn't see her, he didn't see anything."

"She [the mother] was screaming, 'You hit my baby, my baby, my baby!' She just tried to reach the car underneath the truck, but she had already reached completely under the wheel," Walker added.

A couple of nearby New York Police officers rushed to the aid of the mother and child and took them to Elmhurst Hospital, where little Skylar died.

Both Walker and another witness, Reese Fluellen, said that at the time of the accident, the girl's mother was on the phone.

Leo Guerrero, 45, was in the car behind the truck. According to the same newspaper, he saw Ramírez get out of the truck without knowing what he had hit. "When he realized it was a little girl, he went crazy," he said.

Ramírez has been accused of failing to yield to a pedestrian and failing to act with due diligence.
