In early March, an 18-year-old girl was found in a church, covered in blood and wearing only underwear, claiming that a group of "blacks" had kidnapped and raped her en masse in the town of Denison, Texas.

The crime raised the alert in the town, which after the inquiries threw an even sadder truth: the story was a great lie. Now the culprit, named Briana Harmon Talbott, has been arrested and will pay for lying to the police in such a manner.

The events were triggered when Harmon was reported missing by her boyfriend on March 8. When they found her inside the church, she told police that "three black men" in ski masks had kidnapped her from her apartment to rape her.

According to a statement, the young woman had visible scratches and cuts on her body. But after rigorous questioning, her story began to fall apart, raising suspicions in the detectives assigned to the case.

"Almost immediately, Talbott's story and his arguments about it began to fall apart," police chief Jay Burch said in the statement. "In a day or two, detectives had doubts about most of Talbott's arguments."

Police branded the young woman's false accusations as "insulting," especially "to the African American community."
