Footballer Dies From Crocodile Attack

The young soccer player Estevao Alberto Gino, just 19 years old, lost his life after a crocodile will attack him when he was training.

The unusual and almost incredible tragedy occurred on the banks of the Zambezi River in the African country of Mozambique, where he was doing some physical conditioning work.

The horrible event has shocked all the members of the second division club in which Estevao, Atletico Mineiro of TETE played.

Through its Facebook page the club shared a tribute remembering the young man. "We are in mourning for our player, our brother, our friend, our son, our eternal central defender … he was an example of obedience, respect, humility and leaves a great void in our lives," reads part of the hanging statement.

The team's coach, Eduardo Carvalho, told the local newspaper O Tempo that his pupil was with his hands in the river water when the animal clothed him, taking him by the arm and dragging him without contemplation.

Despite the fact that some people witnessed the terrible scene, there was little they could do in the face of the reptile's imminent attack. "His friends were terrified and heard the screams, but there was nothing they could do. The crocodile averages about five meters," added the instructor.

According to Carvalho himself, it is not unusual for the inhabitants of the region to use the river water since they do not have a water service at the location.

The authorities in charge of the investigation have not yet been able to find the whereabouts of the athlete's body.
