Years ago, when BJ Gruber decided to be a police officer, perhaps he dreamed that someday he could rescue a girl in an emergency, which he surely never imagined, is that this "emergency" would be related to his student duties. But that was precisely what happened when Lena Draper contacted the Marion City Police Department on Facebook.
Apparently to the fifth-grader from Ohio, her concern about her homework did not let her sleep, because at 1:22 AM she sent her first "help" message.
“I am having trouble with my homework. Can you help me?”Wrote the ten-year-old girl.
The brave officer went into action and asked, "OK with what?"
However, the girl had not only one question, but several. And that's where things got complicated, because if at first the officer was right in helping her, in a new question the situation became more difficult.
"Ok now I have this (90 + 27) + (29 + 15) x2," said the young lady.
The officer always ready, gave him the wrong information: "Take the result of the first parenthesis and add it to the second parenthesis and multiply that result by two."
Actually this math problem requires multiplying just the sum within the second parenthesis by 2, and adding that result to the sum of the quantities in the first parenthesis. This would make the correct answer 117: 88, which equals 205. But the officer's answer was 322.
Regardless of the outcome, what really counts is Gruber's personal interest in this little girl. The girl's mother recognized this when she shared on her Facebook page the texts that the police and her daughter exchanged. "Thank you Marion, Ohio Police Department for truly building relationships with the community," he wrote. Your message has gone viral.
While the officer, who recognizes that mathematics is not his forte, took advantage of the visit to his "almost rescued victim" to have lunch with her. Perhaps they even laughed together to discover that, faced with math problems, neither of them is unscathed.
