The Muslim community in St. Louis, MO, has gone to work to help repair the serious damage caused by unknown persons in a Jewish cemetery, in what is considered an act of anti-Semitism.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper, the online fundraising led by activists Linda Sarsour and Tarek El-Messidi has brought together local Jewish groups and raised new fears about a spike in anti-Semitism and other acts of repudiation against minorities allegedly linked to Donald Trump's electoral triumph.

"It is incredibly rude, it is a shame," Judy Sipkin, who visited the cemetery on Tuesday to inspect the damage caused to the graves of her relatives, told the newspaper. "No one says it is a hate crime, but it certainly wasn't love or compassion."

For now, those responsible for the cemetery have hired a company specialized in the repair of monuments to assess the damage and determine which of the affected slabs will have to be repaired.

Before some criticism from those who do not consider that he had not been clear in his rejection of this type of act, Trump took advantage of his visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC on Tuesday to denounce intolerance and demand respect for religious minorities.

"The anti-Semitic threats directed at our Jewish community and community centers are horrible and painful and a sad reminder of the work that still needs to be done to root out hatred, prejudice and evil," said the president.
