There's a commotion in New York after a police officer attacked a pregnant Hispanic teenager with an electric gun. The event was reported last Friday in a building in the Bronx. Footage recorded during the incident shows the 17-year-old - about 14 weeks pregnant - screaming and crying as four NYPD officers grab her, and one of them attacks her with a taser to paralyze her. The girl yells to be released and tells them that she is pregnant. In the background you can also hear the screams of neighbors who tell the officers that the girl is pregnant.
Police reportedly rushed to the building responding to a call from a resident who had an asthma attack. Once there, they tried to stop a fight on the fourth floor, where the girl lives, between the young pregnant girl's boyfriend and her brother.
The minor allegedly refused to let the police into the home without a court order. The pregnant woman was facing charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice, according to reports, and spent one night in police custody before she was released. The officer who used the taser has been reported to be under investigation. The electric pistol left two-inch-wide burns on the right side of his body.
She told the New York Daily News that her doctor assured her that both she and her unborn daughter are doing well. The newspaper revealed that the girl had lost a daughter last year, who died shortly after birth as the young mother suffers from pre-eclampsia. This incident once again puts the police under scrutiny and calls into question whether and under what circumstances these electric pistols should be used.
