An Aerolineas Argentinas plane that was about to take off Thursday at New York's JFK airport had to abort the maneuver due to a blowout in one of its engines, forcing the aircraft to evacuate.

The incident caused tremendous fright among the passengers of the Airbus A330-200 plane that was about to fly to Buenos Aires after long hours of delay due to the snowfall that fell yesterday in the northeast of the United States.

In a recording of what happened, you can hear what looks like an explosion in one of the wings of the aircraft when the race to take off began. The captain immediately aborted the maneuver and returned to the terminal, where the passengers were evacuated in an orderly manner without causing any injury.

Argentine singer Axel, who was one of the passengers, was filming the takeoff when the malfunction happened.

“I was taxiing the plane and suddenly a very strong explosion. I was recording the takeoff so I have the video that (…). The turbine exploded and I had it next to me on the right, a little way back. When I look out the window I see fire. The truth is to see the calm with which the crew took it … , related the artist.

The airline explained in a statement that what happened in the turbine was a stall, a "situation can be generated when the flow of air entering the engine is altered and as a consequence there is an explosion-like noise."

"The event was limited to said engine and the intervention by airport authorities was not necessary," the company said in a statement. "It is also important to clarify that there was no fire."

The manufacturer of the engine, the American Pratt & Whitney, also confirmed that there was no fire.

The airline is trying to accommodate all passengers so they can resume their journey
