The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Panamanian authorities continue to investigate the cause of death of Catherine Johannet, a 23-year-old American woman, during her visit to that Central American country.
According to The Journal News, the young Columbia University graduate was last seen alive on Thursday when she traveled from Isla Colon to Isla Bastimentos. When Johannet did not return to the hostel where she was staying on Isla Colón, her family members were alarmed and began to distribute newsletters asking for information about the missing young woman.
According to CBS News, the body of the young woman was discovered on Sunday by a police officer in a wooded path near a Bastimentos beach, a popular destination among tourists from that area.
Although the United States Embassy confirmed his death, he has not revealed whether it was accidental or the product of a crime. In turn, his sister, Laura Johannet, thanked on her Facebook page the solidarity samples received.
