Javier Righetti, 24, was sentenced to death for the horrible rape and subsequent murder of a 15-year-old girl, whom he stabbed more than 80 times just meters from the girl's house.
The murder of Alyssa Otremba, a high school student, occurred in September 2011, when Righetti was only 19 years old. Her sentence was released last Thursday after the jury deliberated for three hours, finding her guilty of the charges she was facing. On Tuesday, she became the youngest person in history to be sentenced to death in the state of Nevada.
According to documents obtained by People magazine, Righetti sexually abused his victim in a tunnel near the Otremba residence. Just three weeks before her murder, the young woman had started classes at the Arbor View High School in the city of Las Vegas.
"It is really scary to think about what could have happened," said prosecutor Giancarlo Pesci about the chilling death of the girl, who at the time of the attack was on her way to a friend's house to borrow a math book from her.
After the crime, Righetti was arrested by Las Vegas detectives, confessing to the rape and the subsequent attack on the girl, who he repeatedly stabbed in the face and torso.
The murderer, who also confessed to having committed three other rapes in the same tunnel, ended his bloody onslaught by engraving the letters "LV" on the young woman's body, that before incinerating her body.
