A man has been arrested and remains in custody in connection with the Karina Vetrano murder case, which took place six months ago in Queens, New York.

This is Chanel Lewis, just 20 years old, under arrest since Saturday as a possible suspect in the crime. "Lewis was interviewed by detectives and made a detailed description of the facts in addition to admitting guilt," said the chief of the detectives in charge of the investigation Robert Boyce, according to CBS. "The charges have yet to be confirmed."

During the press conference, held this Sunday morning, authorities said the DNA found in Vetrano's body directly connected Lewis to the crime scene. “Karina helped us find this person. She had DNA under her nails. This is how we were able to create a profile and how we made the connection, Boyce explained.

Vetrano was 30 years old and sexually assaulted, beaten, and strangled while running alone in Spring Creek Park on August 2, 2016, later being found by her father, not far from her home in Howard Beach.

The police chief confirmed that Lewis does not have a criminal record. The suspect also did not appear to have any connection to the victim. District Attorney Richard A. Brown said Lewis will be prosecuted between this Sunday or Monday, depending on the resolution of the paperwork. "We are satisfied that we have a solid case," he specified.
