Brazilian police arrested three suspects accused of the murder of Brazilian singer Loalwa Braz, who became famous on the subject of Lambada.

The former interpreter of the Kaoma group was found charred inside her car on Thursday a few meters from her home on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the EFE agency, the detainees were identified as Wallace de Paula Vieira, 23, Gabriel Ferreira dos Santos, 21, and Lucas Silva de Lima, 18.

According to the authorities' version, the suspects appeared on Wednesday night at the local Pousada Azur, a lodging that Braz owned, and forced the entrance door.

Once inside, the alleged criminals immobilized the artist, beat her up and stabbed her several times when she apparently tried to resist. They then dragged the body to the victim's vehicle, which was set on fire with her body inside.

De Paula Vieira initially went to the police as a witness, but the contradictions he fell into in his account made him become a suspect and eventually confessed to the crime.

Ferreira dos Santos, another of the alleged murderers, was arrested with the singer's cell phone and bank card.

The Lambada, a song known in Portuguese as Chorando se foi, became an international hit in the late 1980s and its catchy dance was all the rage in discos around the world.

Kaoma, made up of French and Brazilian musicians, was sued by the Bolivian group Los Kjarkas for plagiarism and won the subsequent trial by showing that the song had been copied.
