A Chilean woman attempted suicide at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport last Thursday to avoid facing deportation, according to the New York Daily News.

The 66-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was apparently returning from a visit to Chile when she was detained by Customs and Border Protection agents at the airport for being on a federal expired visa list.

Therefore, a waiting area was transferred where she was informed that she would be deported to Chile. Rather than accept the situation, the woman told officers that she preferred to die before facing deportation.

He then ingested a life-threatening dose of 30 sleeping pills and muscle relaxers in his bag, causing him to lose consciousness.

Her heartbeat and breathing had dropped "dangerously close to cardiac arrest levels" when Port Authority agents John Devins and Dominick Renda rushed to help her, according to the newspaper.

Agents quickly supplied the woman with a dose of Narcan, a medication that primarily neutralizes opioid overdoses, which immediately revived her.

They also practiced first aid while an ambulance arrived, with which she was transferred to the hospital in stable condition.

It is unclear what his current status is, as well as his future immigration, as authorities declined to discuss the case.
